I have a group who has a solid kick single twist basket toss. The double twist just isn't quite there. Any pointers would be helpful.
Come on ...someone must have some tips for my flyer? Huh

Whats the problem?

she isnt twisting fast enough, or she isnt riding the toss, or something else?

I think she isn't twisting fast enough. When she tries to throw the kick-double she only makes it around one and a half times landing on her stomach. She has a beautiful double down, so she knows the speed at which she must throw it, but she says the kick first throws it off for her. I am not sure how to tell her to compensate. Maybe it's something with her legs??

Have you had her try the basket without the kick?  She'd essentially be doing a double full--since she can do a nice double down maybe she's just having a timing issue.

Grin Thanks for the idea..I don't know why I didn't think of it myself. I really think this is the issue-timing, I mean. I will try it tonight at practice and let you know! Thank you again!!

What is slowing her down...her arms or her legs?  What is she doing with her leg after she kicks it?  If she is returning it to the previous position, it will be very difficult for her to spin quickly with her leg coming straight back down...her hip will counter-rotate her so she cannot rotate quickly.  What she should do is rotate her hip over as she starts twisting with her upper body.  If both rotate at the same time, she'll help her twist instead of going against the twist.  In order to do this, she should open her hip up a bit at the top of her kick.  This will allow her to drop her foot back down in the direction of her lower body is rotating in the direciton of her twist.  This should speed her up and make it easier for her to twist.

Thanks Kong! I will have her do this. She did 1 and 1/2 last night so this could be just the thing to get it around the full 2!! Thanks so much. I am so glad I found this board!  Smiley

remind your flyer to keep her self tight
like when she probably learned her double she needs to stay twisting and not open up until the very end
have her keep her twisting form as she lands in the bases arms and not open up at all
or you can tell her to try and do a double and a half and because she'll try so hard shell land the double
but make sure she actually doesnt do the double and a half unless you want that to be her kick double

Kong is on it!  Our flyers have trouble getting that rotation started after the kick.  Like you said with your flyer:  has the kick, has the double, but can't kick and double.  If she's loading in facing the side, when she kicks, have the peak of her kick hit as she squares her hips to the front (that's the hip up and over that Kong mentioned).  As she cleans out of the kick, she should complete another quarter turn; so, she's compeleted a half revolution.  The rest is her twisting.

My flyers like the mental checklist.  Kick front, clean side, and roll!

have her do the double twist like someone suggested, then gradually make her start doing baby kicks just to get the correct feeling, then each time it's repeated haver her kick a little harder
