Last year I had the girls just tuck (bend their knees and bring their arms into a "daggers" position at their chest, then push up and do the jump.  It looked VERY clean and sharp, but the girls hated it precisely *because* it worked their leg muscles harder.  This year, I let them go back to their high V prep and it's so sloppy.  Arms flailing backwards, swinging wildly to find the proper position for the jump itself.  Crazy.  Next year we go back to the tuck approach.

My word! I look so silly doing this in my studio (ie; my job's restroom...plenty of mirrors!!!!).
Where is the arm (dagger) placement after they "push up" to the jump?  Still in daggers?
Or do they swing downward and around to a T?

alumnicoach...they just shoot out to the position relative to the jump they're doing.  Bend slightly at the knees and bring your arms in to daggers, push off, do a toe touch and just pop your arms out to where they need to be, tuck them back to daggers when you land, pop up, and clean.  For a herkie (I do them the traditional way, with the left leg out front, right leg bent back, left hand on hip, and right arm straight up, same thing...daggers, shoot arms to position, tuck back to daggers when landing, pop up and clean.  It's so much easier to show than to explain LOL...sorry!!!

I use the 'banana' (Currently call it the cone) for my jumps, and I'm in middle school. High V's definitly work better for younger girls, or for teams with a lack of syncronization.

both the teams at my school use the high v for toe touches and banana for pikes and herdlers
and the team i coach does the banana for pikes and herdlers and high v for toe touches.

but both are good for any of them.
i've seen teams use a combination of the two for their jumps
