Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the standard high V prep opposed to the 'banana' (that's what another company taught one of my girls) prep.  UCA still teaches a high V, right?

I haven't seen a banana prep in sooooo long!  I definitely prefer the high V - I think it's cleaner and easier to synchronize.  Another prep I like is the tabletop - cross & swing to tabletop (on your toes) then jump.  I actually prefer that to a high V, for dance choreography.  Although you can overswiing on both preps, it seems to be less noticeable on the tabletop.

This year we're using whip-clasp preps for our pikes and high Vs for our toe touches. (We're doing pike-TT-pike for our jump sequence)

I'm not exactly sure what a "banana" prep is. . .I do know that I was taught to bring my hands to daggers, then up to a touchdown on my toes, then swing down and around to hit the high V or T for the jump.

I don't teach it this way, however.  We do the same as Jen -- whip-clasps for pikes and hurdlers, and high V's for our toe touches.

What does a "banana" look like?Huh??

A banana jump is a prep jump with a little arch in your back and arms in a touchdown.  It really looks like a banana.  I think it's pretty old school, but occasionally I see some connect jumps with a banana in between.

If I'm reading this correctly warriorbabe_232, that's what my squad does too.

For the sake of being clean, we always had to keep our arms straight down by our sides.  We would bend our knees (maybe swing our arms forward a little if it wasn't noticeable) and then do our jump from there.  It was a whole heck of a lot cleaner and easier to keep together!!  But it did work your leg muscles better   Grin  Anyone else do this?

We use a high V prep for toe-touches and herkies, a high clasp for hurdlers and pikes, and a double swing with double-toes.

Last year I had the girls just tuck (bend their knees and bring their arms into a "daggers" position at their chest, then push up and do the jump.  It looked VERY clean and sharp, but the girls hated it precisely *because* it worked their leg muscles harder.  This year, I let them go back to their high V prep and it's so sloppy.  Arms flailing backwards, swinging wildly to find the proper position for the jump itself.  Crazy.  Next year we go back to the tuck approach.

Didn't Dunbar do it that way in this year's Nationals routine?

The approach from just dipping with no swing (keeping hands down to the side) looks so much more cleaner for girls who tend to flail (is that a real word? haha) their arms all over. I have my girls doing this for their fronts but their clap to high V's for everything else. Eventually I would like to get them to just dip and use no arms like their fronts, but we are a young squad.... one step at a time Smiley

and yes...Dunbar still does it. They are across town from me Wink

i think i get what a "banana jump" is...however we call it a "C'' jump. because it looks like a C to the audience...

Does anyone know if im thinking of the same thing, just by a different name, or something totally different?

A C jump has bent legs and a banana has straight legs.
