I have been working on my tuck for like 2 years. I have had it and thrown it by myself before, my roundoff tuck that is, and then i went to an open gym to get spotted on roundoff handspring tucks. The coach dropped me and i would throw a connected handspring tuck for 5 months. Now i will throw it with a spot, and my coaches keep telling me that i can do it and my sets so high gravity will just pull me over. When i try to do it by myself, i psych myself out and i wont throw anything past the backhandspring. I need to know how to get over this before nationals in 3 weeks so i won't be standing in the back again while everyone else is tumbling. My coach says we can't through roundoff backhandsprings on a level 4 team. HELP!?!?

I had the exact same thing (except my coach didn't drop me I droped my self) and it took me all summer to get it back! You just have to trust your coaches that you have it now that I've learned to trust myself and my coaches I got my tuck and got moved up! Now I throw anything my coaches tell me to (i may not land but I try). I'm not sure you'll get it in 3 weeks Cry, but I hope that helped!

P.S. If your coach says your tuck is high the worst thing that will happen is you will fall on your knees!  Wink Grin

yeah. you just have to trust yourself that you have it. I remember when I first did one. no one spotted me, and i was by myself. I already knew how to do one, and i just trusted that i would come over and land. AND I DID! most of the battle with tumbling is your confidence. try doing bhs tucks, and standing tucks. that's what i did, it kinda helped me think about how it would feel like to do a running tuck. :-p

Some stunts go wrong but we caught it no injuries

My daughter is on my cheer squad and she has a standing bhs and a ro bhs and a ro tuck.  She will be a senior next year and wants to cheer in college.  We looked at the requirements for tryouts at the school she wants to attend and she has to have standing back tuck.  She goes to a gymnastics open gym class once a week (Sept.-March) in a town that is 50 miles away from us. We also will be attending a gymnastics camp this summer.  I do have a little bit of a gymnastics background I did go to gymnastics class in High school. I by no means am knowledgeable enough to teach my own squad more than just the basics fwd roll cartwheel ro bhs.  What I want to know is How hard is it to get a standing back tuck?  Is this something that I could help her on in practice if I talk with the gymnastics instructor and get some instructions on how to help her?  We have just as mom and daughter had her stand on a crash pad in the wrestling room and then throw it but your elevated in that situation.  Any suggestions?

If you went to her gym Coach and asked how to help  her I think you would definitely be fine.  However, you would need to get as much information as possible.  Not just, "well this is how a standing tuck is done".  There are so many things that can go wrong in gymnastics (as well as cheer - or any sport for that matter) when new things are being learned.  You would need to have the gym Coach explain to you the typical problems/habits that occur when learning a standing tuck and what to do as a spot in those situations.  It really is not that difficult to spot tumbling passes up to layouts.  Fulls is where it gets a bit tricky in my opinion.  However, just like in stunting, there are many things you as a Coach/Mom spotting your daughter need to be aware and prepared for.  Seeing as how she already has a tuck in a running pass, that might make the standing tuck be a bit easier to get.  But, it could also make it harder.  It really just depends on your daughter.  Tumbling is so subjective for each kid because of the mental standpoint that is involved.  For example, I could do a tuck long before I could do a back-handspring and I was a gymnast.  I just didn't like putting my hands down because it scared me.   Grin How silly, I know!
