Nice!  How cool to see names I recognize LOL...  I run the youth cheer program in Endicott and S-VE is right in my backyard LOL
I think it was a pretty good article.  Shocked)

I got to coach both mascots at our camp and will be heading up to SVE this fall to follow up with the mascot's advisor.  So often administrators don't know how to manage mascots well.  I love being able to team up with their advisors whenever possible.

I'm so thankful that you do!
When I coached cheer at a different area high school a few years ago, the AD put me in charge of the mascot.  I had her (the mascot) come here to the forums to read up, and I did as well, and we both did a lot of research....she did really well, considering.  Unfortunately, the administration didn't want a character...just a cardinal who would walk around and wave at the fans.  No skits, no real interaction... and no way was I to even think of additional training for the mascot.  "How hard could it be?"  LOL...you try it and then get back to me.  I'm really happy that the mascot programs are being taken more seriously up here...maybe all the schools will eventually put more effort into it.
My 2nd year at that school I had wanted to host an invitational competition and have a Mascot Mania event...unfortunately, there were only 3 schools (including ours) that even HAD a mascot!  Shocked(
Keep up the great work!  It's really awesome to have that additional training and support available!!!

"PANTHERS OUT" WHAT NOW?!

it just makes me mad and kinda ticks me off because i had to pay $700 to be mascot for my school and ugh. i talked to the old mascots at our school they just  had to do the same cheers as the cheerladers.if i  wanted to be a cheerleader i would have tried out to be one! and hey i like to entertain people and be crazy (well i do that in the hallway) so basically i am gonna get the courage to go up to my sponsor and talk to her about it! because i want topretend to be a maestro with the band i want to shine bald men's heads! i want to take pictures of me with another student trying to bite them! so sorry about my rant but hello! im a mascot not a cheerleader. because i used to be one and i wanted a change. Undecided

But you're also a part of the TEAM, Pouncer.  No matter what your role is in relation to the cheerleaders and football players you're expected to help raise spirit at some level.

Do your best to check your attitude and find ways to say "how can I help you?"  See how the cheer coach acts if you're looking to support what they do instead of complaining about how bad you have it.  Maybe they'll let you in on their fundraising.

Little by little, step by step, build trust and loyalty between you and the cheer team.  THEN you'll get the freedoms you are desiring so much
