I like that video, they have a lot of really cool, solid stunts.

When we did that load in, yes, the fliers feet were crossed (and I believe the bases have one hand crossed over their other).  If you break it down into seperate stunts it's a 180 load in, into a split retake.

That's exactly it, Coach April.  The bases hands cross right over left and the flyer loads in backwards (from the front, facing the back) and jumps in with her feet crossed.  If you want them to turn to the right, the left foot goes in front of the right foot, and vice versa.

^ Awesome!  I always backed the 180 load ins, so I didn't focus too much on what the bases hands were doing  Cheesy

So, after the flier loads, she's popped up to about extension level (that's the level we did the split retake part from, because it just looks better and it gives a little more time).  For the split retake part, the bases have their outside had under the fliers foot, and their inside hand under the fliers thigh as she goes into the split.  As this is happening the back spot "catches" the flier's upper thighs and slows her decent (to keep it controlled). Flier:  Make sure you're going down into the split with your torso facing the side (don't go into a regular split and then try to turn your body, a girl on a previous team did that and has permanent hip tendon injury).  We had our flier keep her arms tight at her sides, but in the vid it appears that she catches herself on the front and back spots shoulders.  After the retake pop it back up into a full. Smiley

So make sure you have lead up stunts to progress to this:

180 load to half
180 load to extension

split retake (half, retake, half; then full, retake, full)

bases shoulders, only cause we didn't use front spots, but that could work too!

Just a note - and I haven't seen the new (09-10) rules, so I may be wrong - but, last I remember, the split had to have four people under it when the flyer came down to the split position.

However, if you were to bring it down to a low straddle sit, you would not need the fourth base.

Again, correct me if I'm wrong, but this is my understanding.

You are correct. A front spot should catch under the splits on the thighs and help with the retake. The straddle would not need the additional spotter.

Right, the flyer actually pushes or catches herself on the shoulders of the front and back spots.

The beginning stunt is what we call a twist up. But I don't know what the split part is.
