hey everyone. so ive been tumbling a littel less than a year now. i started in beginner's tumbling at Gym City Gymnastics and withen about 6 months i was able to combine my backhandspring and round-off. That meant I could be moved to advanced. well... i have never been too good at my standing back-handspring and felt way more comfortable with a spot. but now im terrified i wont have it for try-outs in a little over a month. i need some help. im having terrible mentle block =[[[. thanks a ton!

I would suggest doing privates instead of a class.  Usually having a one-on-one with the instructor helps a little more when you are having difficulties with something.

Also try visualising yourself actually doing the skill in your head when you do it.  I have had girls that have backtucks and for some reason they get hung up and have mental blocks with backhandsprings still.  What I always told them was "It's just a backhandspring - if you fall, you fall, and you get back up and do it again." And sometimes that would help.

You have to realize that you know what you are doing, and if your instructors or coaches didn't think you could perform a bhs without a spot, they wouldn't be letting you, so obviously you have the skill.  You just need to focus and think about what the issue holding you back is and if it is a valid reason for keeping you from doing your standing bhs!

Good luck with your tumbling block and tryouts!
