At the college level, on a basketball court OR a mat, do you need a dedicated backspot for a double base ext or can you do it with three people? (two bases and a flier?) Does it matter if the bases are all girls, all guys, or a combo of the two? Does the dismount make a difference?

What about a lib? Can you do a lib with two guys if one of the guys is holding the foot all-girl style?

I get a little confused when it comes to these rules between what is allowed coed vs all girl- is it the approach you use that makes a difference or the fact that its guys vs girls?

Thanks!!

Superstar -

Check out the AACCA website for more information on college rules...here is the link:

http://aacca.org/content.aspx?item=Safety/Test.xml

The difference between surfaces is what is going to drive the answers to some of your questions.

A double based extension can be performed without a backspot on both the court or matted surface.  The surface that you are on determines how you can enter or dismount a stunt.  No released twists on the hardwood.

Rules are the same for coed and all-girl collegiate teams.  No distinction between the two is made.

As for libs... Grin...if you've got a guy...there is no need to do the stunt double based.   Grin

Thats assuming he is capable of doing a lib:) Its not that sturdy solo, but with some help from another person its perfect. Until he gets the lib down, wanted to make sure they could do it with side help but not a back legally.

In order for him to learn to do a solo lib...you don't want to have someone else helping to hold it.

He needs to do extension after extension after extension from "hands" until he is really feeling comfortable and your coach (or you, if you're the coach) feels that it is solid.  He needs to use his legs and drive up, locking out his arms and legs at the same time, squeezing his extended arms closer than (his) shoulder width all while squeezing the crud out of the flyers feet.

Once he has that down and is really feeling through his hands its time to try the liberty.  Nice deep push (just like the extension), driving up with his legs, extension, extension, extension and at the top of his reach he grabs the right toe and again squeezes the daylights out of her foot with locked out arms supporting the weight of the stunt.

Stunting isn't like learning to ride a bike...there are no training wheels here.  This is about building solid skills on top of solid foundations.  Learning without help and really letting him "own" the stunt...will have a much more long lasting effect on his ability to learn the next stunts on the progression sheet (arabesque, torch, heel stretch, etc.) and his catching/spotting technique.

Just my two cents...
