I've been cheering for 9 years, I took last year off but prior to that I was working on fulls.  I've started back up and decided that I really want to improve my form and technique before I throw any fulls.  I've been mainly working on my RO BH layout.  I go to tumblling about 3 times a week and I usually bail out of my tumbling at least once a gym session.  I've never done this before.   Often its out of my backhand spring before I even get to the layout.  I'm not sure what is going on??

Another thing I am looking for help with tumbling with scoloiosic.  It does both me rather effects my tumbling.  For instance when I come out of my BH to go into my layout i'm off balance so when I land one foot gets more weight than the other, therefore I can't throw fulls because if that was to happen in a full I would probably blow out my knee.

 ???Help? Ideas? Suggestions? Thanks!

I would consult a doctor about the scoliosis issue.  Maybe there's something you should be doing for that on days when you're not tumbling...physical therapy, chiropractic care, etc...

When you bail after the BHS are you feling something weird happening or are you just pulling out of it?  If you're just pulling out of it, it's gonna be a mental block and I suggest taking your tumbling back to the pit at your gym.  Once you get yourself to realize again that you can do the skills just fine into a pit you'll be find throwing them on the floor.

Its like I go to do my back hand spring and I should be putting my hands down and flipping over and I land on my shoulders. I go up and then down when I should be going up and over...   I don't know when its going to happen but once i've initiated the bh bail  I know its happening.

There is actually an article in the popular cheer magazine about a girl who was a cheerleader/gymnast with severe scoliosis and how it affected her cheer career. It was a really good story - maybe you should check it out! (It is the newest issue)

One of the cheerleaders on my squad this year has scoliosis and the doctor actually said in her case, cheerleading has been beneficial because it's what has kept her muscles strong, even though her spine is somewhat crooked. Talk to your doctor to get more infomation. I don't know what to tell you about correcting the tumbling...

Thanks for your insight, I'm really interested in reading that article about the girl with scoliosis, could you possibly pm which magazine?
As for tumbling I didn't do any running last week just worked and standings and stunting... we'll see how this week goes.
