My daughter is recovering from an elbow injury. She will not be released by the orthopedist in time to tumble at tryouts. Are there rules about this type of situation? Are judges/coaches allowed to award points points based on the fact that she tumbled throughout the year? I don't think we have any video.

Every coach handles this differently.

With my team, if you are not cleared to tumble at tryouts, you get a ZERO for tumbling.

I personally don't award points based on past tumbling.

Reason: Past tumbling tells me nothing about how a girl will tumble AFTER an injury. TRyouts are about what you can do now, not what you used to do. You may have thrown a full before your injury, but how do I know you can do it afterwards? I'm not going to give points for tumbling you might not even be capable of doing now.

I agree 100% with coolcoach.  Let her work on it after she's cleared and try out again next year.

It really does depend on the program, so I'd ask your daughter's coach.  If it's a small program and they get low turnout for tryouts the coach may very well make an exception, but if she's at a large school or all star program and there are plenty of girls waiting for that spot, most likely the coach isn't going to give her any passes.

As much as I hope she can get the points for a tumbling history, it does make sense not to award them. I know of girls who have developed a mental block about tumbling after an injury. Fortunately, she will likely make the squad without tumbling and it's her last year so we won't have to worry about it again! Thanks for the input.
