I just wanted to know how do I know if it is a scam. How much is too much to pay for choreography especially when it is for a small 3A school? What are the going rates these days for home routine, half time and competition choreography?

FORMER COACH

I paid $2800 for routine and music last year... so NOT worth it. I ended up having to choreograph my own dance portion and then as cheerleaders quit or get taken off the team you have to re-work it... The music was $400 of that amount and I was extremely pleased with that part. So, get great music, but if you have cheerleaders that are good at choreography, let them run with it. Or you choreograph parts yourself... use the money you save for a great dinner with the cheerleaders.

We have a smaller local All-star gym that got a bid to worlds last year that did ours. It was $1000 for the routine and music (we ended up not competing at a major competition, so I ended up not being able to see what it would have looked like- that was the gym owner/coach's price quote)  I do know that there is a school in the area that has a couple of girls cheer on the school team and the all-star team and I think she does stuff for that team for free though.

We have competed at some small local competitions before and I have used downloadable pre-made music from a website.  We did really well, an the music is always amazing! (I'm starting to see their stuff more and more though...I thought I knew a secret!) We still download their music for halftimes and the home pom for camp though. They use alot of popular music that's not too "cheered up" and the crowd loves it.  I can pm you the name of the company if you want if you want!

Wow I didn't realize how much money people pay for choreography and music? My coach makes me and the other captain make up the dances. And her sisters best friend is majoring in music so he did our music free of charge.

We paid 2,000 for everything and it was well worth it. We are a 2A/3A split with 2 0 cheerleaders.

I finally found a choreographer who could put my vision into action. I think that is the key....you need to see their work for other teams so you have an idea of what style they have.

I always do my own music and the girls make up the routine.  I have purchased premade music and then altered it a little to add our name or different sound effects.  This year I am paying for our coed routine.  I sent about 20 song that I thought would be good and she told me it would cost between $800-$1100.  Thats a lot of money I don't know that I will do it again but we get our routine in about a month.  We will make up the other two routines that we are doing by ourselves.

when we went to NCA camp they provided us with tons of dances and music. with a DVD of more dances and the ones from camp we sent a few of the girls on the squad to specialty dance classes and they taught the rest of the squad them.

I think paying anything for choreography is too much. Where is the creativity? That is what makes competitions so much fun and shows where the real talent is. Perhaps teams should be marked off on lack of creativity. Seems like a bigger issue today with kids not thinking outside of the box and expecting others to do the work for them.
