Something else to think about is not only what sidelines you're doing (we KISS--keep it super simple) but how many times you do them.  In the past we've said our sideline once because we face the field so someone starts the words and they all come to set position to start + then we did most sideline 3x's.  We have great crowd support and response but there's always room for improvement so were going to try what my squad actually did in college, keep doing the chant until one of the squad captains calls "Last time" or "Once more".  They'll do it once more and then end.  Can't say how it's going to go but will let you know after tonight.  I think it'll take a couple of games for us to really get it down but I think it's going to be so much better.

Repeating sidelines until someone (from Varsity) calls "last time" is exactly what we do. It took a bit of time for the girls to get used to doing it that way and to know how long to it keep going. We've been doing it that way for at least 2-3 years and they still give up sometimes before they should (especially when the crowd wants to yell "de-fense xx" on important 3rd downs  Undecided) I figure it takes about 1-2 times through a sideline to get the crowd's attention and then another time through for them to actually start yelling with you... even simple things like the school colors or letters, and of course they're more likely to do so if the game is competitive.

This year we are focusing on leading the crowd (rather than just entertaining them) during time-outs. Last year I had a few girls that were really good at feeling the energy of the crowd and doing what was appropriate for the moment: close game, lots of energy = crowd cheer, while in a blow out situtation when the crowd is sort of bored = more on the entertaining side (stunts, etc). Alas my really crowd savvy girls graduated.

My school has about 30 general cheers, 15 offense, 15 defense, 20 basketball and 5 soccer. We usually stick to the same cheers a lot because those are the ones our crowd knows and they will yell along much more willing if they already know the words. I attend a high school with the 3rd biggest haigh school football game in the country and even on the big day the crowd is still picky about which cheers they join in on and dont.

We have about 80 sidelines.
This is including anytimes, deffense, and offense for football only.
