My daughter came home from practice last night and told me that they have to go back to school on Friday after the football team finishes practice and clean their lockerroom and then decorate it for homecoming. I have no problem with them decorating, but cleaning it? Supposedly this is a tradition, well it must be fairly new as her aunt cheered at this school and she graduated 10 years ago and they didn't do this. Thoughts?

That sounds pretty disgusting actually...I remember what we did in our locker room when I was playing highschool football.  I can only imagine the state we would have left the room in (c'mon now boys will be boys) if we'd known that the cheerleaders would have been cleaning up after us.

Totally wouldn't happen!  Would never expect my kids to clean the locker room that is ridiculous.

I would never let my team clean the boys' locker room.  That's not only disgusting, but it's totally demeaning...  I doubt that the person who thought up this "tradition" has any respect for the cheer/dance team (not sure which one it is) or women at all, for that matter.  I can't believe the coach supports this idea!     Angry

We are not the janitors or their mother!!!   My girls decorated the lockerrooms for our teams but we don't clean them.  YUCK.  I would have to call a meeting and talk to who ever is in charge.  Girls cleaning up after nasty smelling football boys is not right.

Last I checked, this is what the custodial staff is paid for.

Two words -- H*** NO!  The trained scientist in me is screaming about the numerous nasty things they could get from that--fungus anyone??  They need to change their tradition to Janitors clean the locker room and we'll come back and decorate when they're done.

I agree.  It's not the squad's job to clean up after them.  But I am in no way putting custiodians down.  Yes, they do get paid for it.  But I won't demean them because of what they do.

I am having a hard time believing something like this would actually go on.  Could it be that "cleaning" is a bit of an exaggeration maybe?  I agree with all the responses before me in that the cheerleaders actually cleaning the boys locker room is appalling. I think decorating their lockers would be someting nice for the boys but to clean beforehand is defintely unfair to the girls.

i agree. maybe they mean like throw away some trash they see, or sweep or something. i doubt they will be scrubbing the walls and cleaning the toilets and showers.

Still, the job of the janitors is to clean.  Yes its a dirty job and some one has to do it.  I don't care if it is just picking up trash.  My girls would not be cleaning the locker room.  Our job is to promot school spirit and cheer on our teams not clean up after them.

When I played football, we cleaned the locker room. I have no idea why anyone would think of having the cheerleaders do that.

You make the mess, you clean it up...

We do not clean locker rooms.  We decorate them before our big games but never do we clean unless we ourselves make a mess.  However I do recommend air freshener!  Those boys (and girls!) can be awfully smelly!
