I am trying to start a new dance team in Colorado.  Where I'm from in Indiana, the state has the IHSDTA which hosts small competitions, regionals, and then state.  I can't seem to find any such thing in Colorado.  Anyone know anything about this??!?!?  I know that there are several HS dance teams in Colorado.  Where do they compete?Huh  Am I going to have to take them just to out-of-state comp. only once a year?

I think you can contact the Colorado High School Athletics Association (www.CHSAA.org) and they should be able to point you in the right direction.  Good luck!!

I completely understand your frustration.  I am having a really hard time finding school dance teams in North Carolina, too.  Coming from an area where dance teams were a dime a dozen, it shocks me when people around here aren't even sure what I'm talking about when I say "dance team."  I'm trying to change that, one school team at a time, but it's slow going!  Smiley

I giggled when I read your post because I am originally from Indiana and coached a CO dance team last year, and posted the same question about a year ago!!!!  What part of CO are you starting a team in??

Unfortunately, there are no regionals or invitational dance competitions in CO nor an association to which they would belong.  The only thing is the CHSAA state SPIRIT competition which oversees both cheer and dance.  There are no competitions leading up to it, just the one competition in Denver in December.

We chose to enter the girls into a UDA competition that was in November, and the year before they went to a JamFest competition in February.

If you are looking to give them performing experience, look into local cheer competitions.  Often, they would let us come and perform as exhibition before the competition started.

I know it kinda stinks, especially coming from a place like IN where dance is pretty hardcore, lol.
