What is the best way to teach a 360? My girls learned how to do it at camp last summer. I have a new squad, with only two girls (a main base and a backspot) returning this year and would like to teach them how to do this stunt. I know the hand positions for the main base and what to tell my flyer -- mostly I am unsure EXACTLY what the secondary base does with her hands during the twist and how the backspot helps/supports the stunt. The girls will be moving in a "squoosh" (at least that's what we call it) and doing the twist at the prep level. They will return to the "squoosh" at the end of the stunt (before going up to a full).
We've already got a solid full/extension with a cradle (although no twist down yet). Should I teach a twist cradle before the 360, since it's a similar motion for the flyer? Or am I missing a step entirely?
Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey coach, You do not have to do a twisting cradle prior to doing a 360. In fact, the twist for a 360 requires a different body position than a twisting cradle (not to mention that it usually tiwsts clockwise as opposed to the counter clockwise rotation of the twisting cradle). Here's a link to an article that will tell you just about everything you need to know about 360s including pictures. Please note the lead up skills at the top of the article. Kong

Could you send me the link regarding the double-take and the pics of the 360?

If you click on the blue font in my last message, it will take you to the 360 link. If you click on the blue font in this message where I mention double take technique, it will take you to that article. Kong

Is there any way to repost it or email it to me?

Smhcoach,
Welcome to the boards. We re-launched our site a few months ago and are still getting content back up on the site. I've contacted one of the full-timers at Varsity.com and asked him to check out this link. Hopefully he can locate the articles I referenced from last year. If not, I'll see what I can do to answer your questions.

Thanks Kong!
that would be wonderful if I could access the article. If not I am looking for suggestions as to how different ways to teach a 360. I have one flyer that just cannot grasp the twist while all the other groups have it. I am wondering if maybe trying a different gripping or some drills. Any information is awesome. Thanks for your help!

I am inept at finding it. Can you pm the youtube link to me? Also, how young a team do you think could manage 360s? I haven't seen any of our local junior highs/middle schools do them. Should I assume it's beyond the skill and strength of a younger team?

Should I assume it's beyond the skill and strength of a younger team? Middle school squads are capable of performing 360's, but it takes some extra training. I know my 7th graders have never been able to perform them, but I haven't had the most talented squads to work with.

I don't think I keep my kids long enough to build up the progressions for getting to 360s anyway.

I've seen Middle School teams with them as well as very young All Star teams (Youth and Jr Level 5).
