Chairman, USASF Parent Action Committee

« on: 05/03/08, 06:55 pm »

I’ve been asked to help establish the USASF/IASF Parent Action Committee.  It will be chaired by Valerie Ninemire (editor of Cheer Coach and Advisor) and include Matt McDonough (IASF Communications Director) and Terri Presson (Cheer2WinAgain on ProX).

The relationship between the parents and the USASF needs to grow & improve. For this to happen and for all entities within the USASF membership (event producers, gyms, coaches, athletes & parents) to harmoniously exist, there must be some boundaries and protocol.

Let’s find out how to eliminate the "us" and "them" feeling the parents have for the USASF.  This will only inspire "angry mob" actions or "hearsay" group thinking that can only be detrimental.

Here is what we're thinking for the groundwork for a better process.  This will help us start working towards 08-09.

Step 1. Reconnaissance

I need to gather the names of those parents who are passionate, concerned, and want to be involved.  Please email me at bill.presson@gmail.com.  I only need your name and your gym at this time.

In the interest of being as transparent as possible- we’re just going to start with gathering this information. Once we have a good list together, we can get some preliminary surveys out.  These will help us discover the varying levels of involvement by the parents, and get us an idea of the structure needed to keep everyone informed.

Step 2. Boundaries -

What are the items that Parents need to, and are best suited to address?
What are the major concerns that affect all parents?

Some initial thoughts on some major areas -
Sexual Predators
Ethics & Sportsmanship
Scholarship

Step 3. Protocol
What are the best methods to collect and present concerns?

At this point, we're not asking for any kind of time commitment.  We just need to know what kind of interest exists.  So email your name and gym affiliation to bill.presson@gmail.com.

Thanks.

Parent Action Committee has finally gotten it's first item published, "Ask the Worlds Head Judge".  It will be a recurring item.

Several items are ready to post shortly.

The Parent Action Committee has officially released Cheer Parents 101.

In addition, we've released a collection of money saving ideas for parents/gyms/event producers.

All of the items can be found here:
